The Book Smuggler’s Den publishes book reviews, author interviews, flash fiction, short stories, personal essays, and poetry.

Book Reviews: The Book Smuggler’s Den wants to hear what you’re reading, either from the NYT bestseller list or from a first time published author (preferred). Please keep book review 1,000 words or less. We will not accept reviews from graphic novels, religion, politics, or sexuality. Please keep your post about the book and not about your blog or business. Save that information for the bio at the end of the post. All work must be original, personal, and honest work. Original means your post has never before been published anywhere, including your own blog or sites like Goodreads.

Please include a quote from the book that resonated with you, as well as a bio, sixty words or fewer, at the bottom of the post. You can include one link to your website or blog.

General Guidelines

The Book Smuggler’s Den accepts only online submissions via Submittable. Please submit your work along with a cover letter—no longer than one page—including: a brief bio; your contact info (if you wish others to connect with you); link to your blog, website, book, or social media account(s): and a brief statement about why your submitted work is a good fit for the Book Smuggler's Den.

We accept simultaneous submissions but ask that you alert us as soon as possible if your work is placed elsewhere by either adding a note to your submission through Submittable or withdrawing the full submission.

We ask that you do not send more work until hearing back from us.
Due to the volume of submissions, we can’t respond individually to submission status queries.

We are a super small online literary magazine! Authors that are chosen for the anthology will not be paid nor receive royalties for their submission. This is an opportunity to build your platform.

July! The heart of summer. Summer is the time to get rowdy, experiment, and have fun! The stories that come from summer camps are the best. There's something about sitting around the campfire exchanging stories that makes summer a season like no other.

The Book Smuggler's Den wants to hear about your best campfire story! What is a memorable moment, something unbelievable, or shocking that it becomes a camp legend?
